Fundraising couple support local hospice during its 30th year

For the seventh year in a row, Steve and Jo have organised a three-day charity cycling challenge for Steve and his colleagues at Barnetby-based Singleton Birch.
 
Steve first organised a cycling challenge after his wife Jo’s father was cared for at the Burringham Road Hospice. Together with Jo, who now works at Lindsey Lodge as an Advanced Assistant, Steve has organised and planned the challenge each year, as well as taking part, with Jo taking on the role of driver.
Steve said: “Lindsey Lodge holds a special place in so many people’s hearts. As well as touching the lives of my own family, Singleton Birch former CEO, Peter Hibbard, passed away there, which inspired other members of staff to get involved and show their support.

This year, a ten-strong Singleton Birch team will be taking on ‘The John Muir Way’, a 134-mile, three-day costal trail in Scotland, from Helensburgh on the Firth of Clyde to John Muir’s birthplace Dunbar on the Firth of Forth.
Jo said: “The bike ride has become an annual event that we all look forward to. Its a huge challenge for the cyclists, but the camaraderie between them is fantastic and pushes them through to the end.

She added: “A huge thank you also goes to Singleton Birch who have always given us amazing support, by paying for the cycling shirts, as well as funding the transport and fuel for every trip. This year they have decided to up their support and also pay for all the cyclists’ hotels and breakfasts.”

Not only will Jo be supporting the cyclists this year, she is also taking on a challenge of her own.

Jo and her colleague Dr Faye Boothroyd, who both work at Lindsey Lodge, have taken on a ’30 lengths for 30 weeks’ challenge in support of the ‘Cheers For 30 Years’ Birthday campaign.

Starting on Monday 30 May 2022, up until Christmas, Jo and Dr Faye will be visiting The Pods in Scunthorpe together every week to complete their thirty lengths.

Jo said: “Myself and Dr Faye go swimming together every week, so we decided to challenge ourselves and support the hospice during this very special year.”

“Working at Lindsey Lodge, we see first-hand how the money raised goes directly towards supporting patients and their families at very difficult times in their lives.”

“Singleton Birch and their staff are great supporters of the Hospice and we really appreciate everything they do.’
