A group of 32 local fundraisers have completed the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, raising over £16,500 for a local charity.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare put out the call for people to take part in the 26 mile walking challenge earlier this year, with an aim to reach the finish line in under 12 hours, and raise as much money as possible for the Burringham Road based charity.
Participant Matthew Cooper (32) from Scunthorpe said: “Together with my wife Jodie and brothers Andrew and Christopher, I completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks in memory of my dad John Cooper, who was cared for by Lindsey Lodge for the last six months of his life.
“It’s the first thing I’ve done to raise money for Lindsey Lodge, I’ve wanted to do something for a while to give back to the Hospice, but also to really push myself, and this seemed like the perfect challenge.”
The Cooper family raised over £1,700 for Lindsey Lodge.
Matthew added: “The moment you reach the top of each peak, especially the final one, it really opens your eyes and makes you realise what an amazing life experience it is.”
Lindsey Lodge Fundraiser Peter Dennis said: “The Three Peaks is one of our more gruelling challenges, and it was one of our first events to take place following Lockdown, it was really great way to be reunited with some of our supporters.
He added: “What our participants have achieved is fantastic - not only have they conquered this demanding challenge, together they have also raised an incredible amount of money for Lindsey Lodge.
“Every penny they have raised will go towards patient care, and ensure Lindsey Lodge is there for local people and their families when they need it most.”
Booking is now open for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Dusk till Dawn challenge which takes place on Saturday 20 November. Join the team and set off as the sun begins to set, hiking by head torch throughout the night, completing the final peak as the sun rises.
