Trustee Week: Celebrating Carl Smith
Carl Smith is joining the Trustee Week 2023 celebrations. We sat down with one of our newest trustees to learn a little more about him.

Carl is no stranger to the world of non-exec directorship, having also held the position at St Christopher’s Hospice in London. Carl moved into the area two years ago and after a chance meeting with Dr Lucy decided to get involved with Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Carl comes to our Board with a huge amount of experience in the retail, fundraising, and care sectors, which he felt would benefit Lindsey Lodge. Working as a Director of a number of retail company previously, Carl now acts as a consultant to a number of organisations. Joining us in January this year, Carl is already feeling the value of his time with us. He went on to say,

“In my job as a consultant I spend a lot of time in virtual meetings. Coming here energises me, I always feel very welcome when I walk through the door. Working with like-minded people, who all want to make a success of Lindsey Lodge Hospice makes this a great place to be.”

To Carl, an important part of volunteering his time is knowing that he has something to contribute and can make a difference. Volunteering whilst working can be difficult, however with organisations like Lindsey Lodge who make this role accessible for those currently in work, it is a great experience.
Carl adds,

“For anyone who is thinking about becoming a trustee in any organisation I would recommend reaching out to another trustee to understand what the role entails. If you can invite yourself to the various Board sub-committees so that you can take the time to understand where you can add value into the organisation is a good thing to do.”

We would like to thank Carl for his first year as a Trustee for Lindsey Lodge. Thank you for choosing to volunteer your time with us.
