Fundraisers create a tsunami of cheer for local charities
.
20th December 2018
A local cheerleading squad have raised over £1,000 for two local charities after a sponsored walk across the Humber Bridge.
More than 20 members of Scunthorpe’s Tsunami Allstars cheerleading squad stepped out to walk the 2.5 mile length of the bridge to raise £537 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice and £630 for The Health Tree Foundation (HTF), the official charity of the town’s hospital.
Joint head of fundraising for Tsunami Allstars committee Terry Stevenson said: “We are a local group and wanted to give something back to the community. What better way of raising funds for the local hospital and hospice.
“Giving up a little bit of our time costs nothing and we’re very proud to have raised so much money for two great charities.”
Lindsey Lodge Hospice Fundraiser Selina Doyle said: “A massive thank you to all the cheerleaders and their families for their amazing support.
“It’s so lovely to see young people doing their bit to raise funds for local charities in this way and a real privilege for me and our Lindsey Bear mascot to join them on their walk.”
HTF community champion Hayley Thompson said: “We would like to thank Tsunami cheerleaders and their families for all their support to the various wards at the hospital.
“It really means a lot to us to see a local community group supporting two local charities in their area, thank you”
