Two teams of North Lincolnshire medics are set to take on a charity cricket challenge in aid of their local hospice.

A team of doctors from Scunthorpe Hospital, which is run by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) will be meeting a rival team of North Lincolnshire GPs at a Cricket Family Fun Day, in aid of Lindsey Lodge Hospice, to be held at Heslam Park, Scunthorpe on Sunday 21 July, starting at 12pm.

Consultant Acute Care Physician Dr Vijaykumar Singh, who has helped organise the event with colleagues Dr Anwer Qureshi, Dr Khawar Naeem and Dr Satpal Shekhawat, said: “In the spirit of working more closely with our health partners, we’ve organised this event, which we hope will be a fun day out for all of the family, as well as some entertaining cricket!”

He added: “We’re delighted that so many colleagues from the hospital and general practice have got on board, and despite the friendly rivalry between the teams, it’s great to be working together to be raising funds for Lindsey Lodge Hospice, which is such an important local charity and touches the lives of so many of our friends, families and patients.

“We hope to make this an annual event for years to come, so we do hope the local community comes on board to support us!”

The event is open to the public and as well as enjoying the cricket match, visitors can enjoy a variety of stalls and games, a bouncy castle, BBQ, ice creams, raffle, tombola and refreshments.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved for choosing to support Lindsey Lodge Hospice and hope this is a great family fun day for all!”

Peter Reading, NLaG Chief Executive, said: “It is great to see doctors from the hospital building great relationships with GPs across North Lincolnshire and coming together for what promises to be a great day of cricket and fun for all the family.”

Tickets for the event cost £5 per person (children aged under-six go free). Family tickets (two adults, two children) are £15. Tickets are available online here by emailing llh.enquiries@nhs.net, or by phoning the Lindsey Lodge Hospice Fundraising Team on (01724) 270835.
