Lindsey Lodge Hospice is throwing down the gauntlet to local adrenaline junkies with a number of extreme challenges over the coming months.

The charity-run hospice has revealed plans for its second Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 16 May, inviting individuals and teams to complete a 26 mile walking challenge, taking in the peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in just 12 hours.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice Challenges Fundraising Assistant April Buttrick said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for avid hikers, walkers and challenge seekers to take on this iconic circular route in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales – but it’s not for the faint hearted – don’t under estimate the height, distance and complexity of completing the route in less than 12 hours!”

She added: “Last year, we had a group of 13 people who took on and completed the challenge in aid of the Hospice, raising an incredible £7,500 between them.

“It really is an endurance challenge for people who already have a level of fitness, so it’s really important to train for the main event.”

Places for the Lindsey Lodge Hospice Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge are limited, and registration is now available for people aged 16 years and over online at www.lindseylodgehospice.org.uk for individual entry at £20 per person. Everyone who signs up will be asked to raise a suggested minimum sponsorship amount of £250 per person.

But if walking’s not for you the Hospice has a number of challenges available for people of all ages and abilities. The Hospice has a limited number of spaces for this for this year’s Great North Run in September, as well as opportunities to fly high and complete a Wing Walk at Wickenby Aerodrome in July, Tandem Sky Dive at Hibaldstow Airfield in May or September or dive with sharks in July.

April added: “Every penny raised by our fundraising supporters goes directly towards supporting local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families to access our specialist care and services when they need it most.

“Whether it’s to mark a special birthday, tick off your bucket list, or to make a difference for your local hospice, we’ve got the challenge just for you, so please do get in touch to find out more information.”
