We are urging local people to find out ‘what it takes’ to provide hospice services during Hospice Care Week (7 to 13 October).
Lindsey Lodge Hospice is marking this special week by inviting people to two-drop in sessions at its Open Day on Tuesday 8 October, in the morning between 10am and 11am, then in the afternoon from 2pm to 3pm, to chat with members of the Lindsey Lodge team and learn more about its 24 hour Inpatient Service, Wellbeing Services, Bereavement Support and recently launched respite care and support services. And anyone who visits its Meet and Eat Restaurant that day can also enjoy a pastry and hot drink for just £2.50.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice on Burringham Road, Scunthorpe, is run as an independent charity to provide free of charge, specialist care to North Lincolnshire people with any progressive life-limiting illness, and supports their family and carers during illness and into bereavement.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: “There are more than 200 hospices across the UK providing support for people and their families. Hospice Care Week is an annual week of celebration and action to raise the profile of hospice care, run by Hospice UK.
“At Lindsey Lodge it takes over 120 staff and more than 400 volunteers to provide the specialist care our North Lincolnshire patients need. And while end of life care is one of the things that we will all need at some point, more than 80% of the £3.5 million we need this year to run our essential public service will come from the local community - in public donations, legacies, shops, lotteries and events.”
She added: “To demonstrate what an important service Lindsey Lodge Hospice provides, we’re inviting people to come along to our Open Day, or just visit our Meet and Eat Restaurant for a bite to eat, to see for themselves what a caring, compassionate and welcoming place it really is.”
