Local Artist to raise money for Lindsey Lodge with Art Exhibition

Local Artist Nick Kostiuk, plans to host an Art Exhibition for Lindsey Lodge later in the year to raise vital funds for the Hospice.

Nick has been a proud volunteer for Lindsey Lodge for the last five years, choosing to volunteer for us after the sad loss of his son Phil Kostiuk. Nick volunteers weekly in our Day Care and Wellbeing Unit running activities to entertain patients, and teaching art whenever there is an interest.

Nick said,

“I started volunteering as a way to give back after the excellent care my son and our family received. What they did for us was outstanding, and this is my way of saying Thank you.”
“I come here every Wednesday and try to provide a little entertainment for the patients. If I can make them smile, it has all been worth it.”

Nick is an experienced Artist, having taught the subject at High Ridge for 20 years, then moving into Adult Education. Nick was also chair of the Scunthorpe Arts Groups for many years. He often brings in his paintings for the patients to enjoy, which can stimulate conversations about art and the memories it brings up.

Sometimes, if a patient shows an interest Nick will run art sessions such as water colour, card making and crafts. He recalls one time that he worked with a patient who requested his help in painting a selection of work to gift to the nurses to say thank you to them. Little things like that can really make a difference to the patients.
As well as volunteering, Nick is no stranger to fundraising for the Hospice. In memory of his son Phil, he helped to organised charity football tournaments to raise money for the hospice, as well as volunteering at many of our fundraising events.

Nick is excited at possibility of hosting an Art Exhibition later in the year to raise much needed funds for the Hospice. He is currently trying to co-ordinate a date and venue, but once this has been done we will be releasing the information, in hopes that we can generate a big crowd to celebrate his work and raise as much money as possible.

Fundraiser Emma Hartley said,

“The work Nick does at the Hospice is invaluable to us. Dedicating his time to enrich the lives of our patients, and to help us generate much needed funds is truly inspirational, and we at Lindsey Lodge would just like to say thank you to Nick for everything he does.”
