A group of bikers from North Lincolnshire are preparing a charity bike ride across six countries in just six days to reach Benidorm.
Leaving Winterton on Honda C90s, John Haynes, Lee Baker, Jonny Miller, Steven Joyce, Matthew Joyce and Jez Teasdale are riding in memory of John’s Dad, Rod Haynes, who was cared for at Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare in March 2021.
John said: “My Dad was a patient at Lindsey Lodge for four weeks and I came up with the idea for the challenge while he was there.
“The staff at Lindsey Lodge gave my Dad and family such loving care during the most difficult of weeks, so I wanted to give something back for all the care, support and amazing work they do.”
Not only will the group be travelling across Europe on a bike that has a maximum speed of 55mph, they are also planning to camp along the way, to make the challenge even tougher.
John said: “The plan is to be self-sufficient for the ride, carrying everything from lightweight camping equipment, to a small but comprehensive spares and tool kit to cater for any unfortunate eventuality.
“The route takes us through Holland, Belgium, France, up through the Pyrenees to Andorra, then down to Barcelona, and following the Spanish coast to our final destination of Benidorm.”
He added: “We’re really excited to get going and raise funds for Lindsey Lodge. As a group, we all know someone who has been touched by the Hospice; it truly is a very important cause.”

The Benidorm bound bikers will be leaving Winterton Market Place outside the George Hogg pub on 22 May at 1.30pm and will be there from around 11am making their final pre-trip preparations. They would welcome any support in sending them off.
