A kind-hearted family are preparing to take on a six-mile trek to raise money for the North Lincolnshire charity that provided care for their loved one.

Sarah Jackson (41) is set to complete a Yorkshire One Peak Challenge with daughters Olivia (10) and Charlotte (8) in memory of their much-loved husband and father, Christopher Jackson, who passed away at Lindsey Lodge in 2020.

Sarah said: “Last year Chris’s colleagues from Drax Power Station did the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge to raise money for Lindsey Lodge and we went along to show them our support.

“When I saw the Family One Peak challenge this year, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for us to raise some money for Lindsey Lodge ourselves.”

Family friends, Scott Witting, Vicky Patrick and their children Josh (10), Ellie (10) and Joey (9) will join Sarah and the girls for the challenge. Even Scott and Vicky’s youngest, Eva (3) will be joining the team towards the end of the trek with Vicky’s parents to accompany them over the finish line.

Chris was diagnosed with cancer in September 2019 and spent time in the Lindsey Lodge Inpatient Unit for symptom management in March 2020.

In September 2020, not long after Chris and Sarah had celebrated their 40th birthdays and wedding anniversary, he suffered a suspected stroke and returned to Lindsey Lodge, where he sadly passed away.

Sarah said: “He was only there for one night, but the team couldn’t do enough for us; everyone was so friendly and welcoming.

“Not only did they make Chris as comfortable as he could be, they also made it possible for me to lay on the bed beside him, meaning I could stay and be right by his side during his final moments. That meant a lot to me and I hope it gave him some comfort.”

Sarah added: “Chris was such a caring, hardworking and determined man, who truly doted on his girls. He will be forever missed and I think he’d be very proud of us for doing this challenge.”

Lindsey Lodge Fundraiser Emma Hartley said: “We are extremely grateful to Sarah for sharing her story with us.

“On behalf of everyone at Lindsey Lodge I’d like to say a big thank you to her and her team of walkers for their fantastic support and wish them the best of luck for the challenge.”
