Make your Will for Free this March

As North Lincolnshire’s only local hospice, we are proud that we are there for families at their most difficult time. Our services are free of charge, but not free of cost. Lindsey Lodge costs over 4 million pounds to run each year. Gifts in Wills fund a huge part of what we are able to offer to the people of North Lincolnshire. Every penny you donate to Lindsey Lodge goes towards making our patients' and families' lives easier while they are being cared for by the hospice. Your money will help us to provide the necessary nursing care, equipment and food to help people live in comfort when they are receiving our specialist care.

This year for Make a Will Month we have partnered with Brand Partners Symes Bains Broomer Solicitors to offer FREE WILLS throughout the month of March. Anyone leaving a gift in their Will to Lindsey Lodge Hospice of £200 for an individual Will and £350 for a double Will with Symes Bains Broomer will be completely free of charge, as long as their first Will meeting is held this month.

Symes Bains Broomer Solcitiors are passionate about making the topic of Wills a less taboo subject, and want to encourage people to make their Will sooner, but why make a Will at all? A Will is one of those things that everybody should have, but only a third of people actually make one. A common misconception is that you have to be of a certain age to make a Will and cannot make one if you are young. As long as you are 18+ you can make a Will, which leads to another misconception that people do not need a Will because they don’t have any ‘assets’, however, it could be as simple as leaving your bank account ormotor vehicle to somebody.

Most Wills are straightforward and only require two appointments. In the first appointment, you would discuss your assets and your wishes to form the basis for your Will. From this appointment, a draft will be prepared and sent out to you for your approval/amendment and if you are happy, a further appointment will be made in order for you to sign and have your Will witnessed.

But what happens if you don’t have a Will?

Molly-May Lodge from Symes Bains Broomer explains more

“Many people assume that, when they pass away, their next of kin, for example, a husband or wife, will automatically receive the whole of their estate. This is not always the case.

If you do not have a Will, the laws of intestacy will govern who gets what from your estate. If you are married with children, then your husband or wife will only inherit the first £322,000 in your estate and then everything else will be split 50/50 between them and the children. This could mean that your property needs to be sold to pay the children.

If you are not married, your partner would have no interest in your estate and would need to make a costly court application to try and benefit.”

Kirsty Walker, Head of Fundraising and Marketing said

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this free Will making service this month, in the hope that not only will it enable making a Will to become more accessible to more people, but may also encourage people to consider remembering Lindsey Lodge in their Will.

With less that 30% of our services funded, a gift in a Will can make a huge difference to what we can provide here at Lindsey Lodge. A gift could help us to fund our fantastic team of nurses and care assistants that will ensure that your legacy will truly be a lasting legacy of love for every patient that comes through our door.

We would like to offer our thanks to the team at Symes Bains Broomer for supporting our make a Will month campaign.”

When you leave a gift to Lindsey Lodge you are leaving a legacy of love and care for future generations to ensure we will be there for them in their hour of need.
