Running The Yorkshire Marathon in a Monkey Suit

Local man Steve Payne is running The Yorkshire Marathon on 15^th October in a Monkey suit for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

As a member of The Scunthorpe and District Running Club, Steve is no stranger to running, having participated in the Skegness Marathon and Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon previously. For his third Marathon Steve decided he wanted to set himself a challenge by attempting to run the full marathon in a monkey suit, while raising money for a worthy cause.

Lindsey Lodge is a charity close to Steve’s heart, as it was at Lindsey Lodge where his Mother in Law received her end of life care. Steve Said,

“The care she received at Lindsey Lodge was fantastic, the team here made her end of life better than we could have hoped for, and I wanted to support this cause”

“I decided to run in the monkey suit to set myself that extra challenge to help bring in the donations, but also to make people smile on the day”

Steve has already started his training and can be seen running around Scunthorpe in a Monkey suit in a Lindsey Lodge T-Shirt to prepare himself for the big day. He encourages anyone who might see him on his travels to give him a wave or to honk their horns to help spur him on!

Steve met with Lindsey Lodge Fundraiser Courtney last week to help set up his fundraising page and pick up his fundraising pack. He is already well on his way to reaching his fundraising target, having raised £335 at the time of writing.

Courtney said,

“We are thrilled that Steve has chosen to run in support of our charity. Every penny raised goes to support care in North Lincolnshire, so we are hopeful that the people of North Lincs get behind him.”

Donations raised will go to support care in our Inpatient and Outpatient units, as well as our little known wellbeing wing, that supports patients with all round holistic care from the moment of diagnosis.
