Scooter club supports Hospice’s first Light up a Life campaign

A local scooter club has generously donated £500 to Lindsey Lodge Hospice and will sponsor the Christmas tree for its first ever Light up a Life Service.

The Lost and Lonely Scooter Club meets every week at its base at The Ingleby Arms in Amcotts. Its 74 members, aged between 19 and 67, voted unanimously to sponsor the tree for Lindsey Lodge service, which will be held in the grounds of its Burringham Road site for the very first time on Monday 10 December.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice Community Fundraiser Anne Millett said: “On behalf of everyone at the Hospice I’d like to say a massive thank you to The Lost and Lonely Scooter Club for their generosity!

“They’ve always been great supporters of Lindsey Lodge and have raised over £3,300 for us over the years, but when we received the call from Chairman Trev Webster to offer this donation, we were very touched to hear they’d voted to support us in this way.”

She added: “After listening to feedback from our patients, families, chaplains and supporters we decided to hold our own Light up a Life service at the Hospice to help families and friends to come together to remember and celebrate the lives of lost loved ones.

“The Club is helping us to bring Light up a Life into the very heart of our Hospice by holding a dedicated service around our very own tree of lights, which we hope will become one of the most important memorial events in our calendar.”

Members of the Lost and Lonely Scooter Club visited the Hospice to hand over their donation, and Chairman Trev Webster said: “We will always support Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

“Two of our club members Tony Nunns and Steve Burdett sadly passed away there and it’s a place which touches the lives of so many local people, so this donation is a way to show our appreciation for the amazing care that’s provided there.”

Lindsey Lodge Hospice’s Light up a Life service will take place at 6.30pm on Monday 10 December.
The Christmas tree, donated by the Lost and Lonely Scooter Club will be lit to remember relatives, friends and family the Hospice has cared for over the last 26 years, and people are being invited to sponsor a light to represent their loved one, and join together for a short service of carols and readings, as well as a special appearance from the Salvation Army Brass Band and Choir.

A similar service will be hosted at Burton Methodist Chapel on the same evening, and there will also be a service with carols at Old Brumby United Church in Ashby at 1.30pm on Tuesday 11 December, for people who would prefer to attend an afternoon event.
