We’re offering virtual clinics to our Wellbeing patients during this difficult time.
Our Breathe Easy Enablement Programme (BEEP), provided by a major Hospice UK grant, supports patients diagnosed with progressive lung disease to participate in exercise, learn about their condition and how to self-manage at home.
Wellbeing Centre Manager Sarah Hodge said: “Our BEEP patients are a more vulnerable patient group because of Covid-19, which is why it was so important for us to redesign the programme to fit the current situation, because now more than ever, our patients and their carers need our support.
“We’ve had to think outside the box and are delivering the programme virtually. We’re providing education electronically or via post, carrying out telephone clinics every Wednesday and we have also sent out exercise DVD’s!
“It’s likely that carers support networks will have broken down too due to Covid-19, so we’re also providing telephone support for carers.”
In addition to the BEEP Programme, virtual clinics are also being carried out for the breathlessness, fatigue and lymphoedema patients.
Sarah added: “We’re determined to support our Wellbeing patients however we can during this difficult time, and although we won’t see them in person, we are making sure they receive the right support during what is a scary time for most of us.”
The Wellbeing team will continue to offer a telephone support service for advice and support, this service is for patients and carers who usually attend the Wellbeing Centre and the out-patient clinics at the Hospice.
