A big-hearted little girl who wanted to help poorly people, has raised over £165 for her local hospice.

After writing a story about the adventures of her family’s pet dogs for the Chris Evans 500 Words competition, seven-year-old Carla Brogden wanted to begin fundraising for Lindsey Lodge Hospice; so, to raise money, she read her story to her Grandma Lynda Webster’s Tai Chi class at St Hugh’s Church, who loved it!

To boost her fundraising efforts, Oakfield Primary pupil Carla decided to do a car boot sale, selling some of her own toys along with items generously donated by family and friends, as well as from Lynda’s Tai Chi colleagues. After three hours of selling, she managed to bring her grand total to just over £165.

Carla and Lynda visited Lindsey Lodge to handover their donation to Head of Fundraising Samantha Wood, who said: “Wow! What an amazing amount of effort and generosity from someone so young, we’d like to say a huge thank you for Carla’s support!

“She’s a real inspiration and so kind and thoughtful. It was a pleasure to meet her, it’s wonderful to see young people volunteering their time and raising funds for their local Hospice!”
