Local people have found unique ways to support a North Lincolnshire charity to help it survive during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice launched its #weneedyou campaign following the cancellation and postponement of its traditional fundraising activities, due to lockdown restrictions and social distancing guidelines.
The campaign encourages people to support the Hospice however they can, whether it’s completing a weird and wonderful challenge, buying a ticket for the Summer Superdraw or simply spreading the word.
Bonnie Wilson (24) and her partner, Brad Sparks (25) from Scunthorpe signed up to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in September to raise funds for the Hospice, after Bonnie’s Nanna beat Coronavirus and was discharged from Lindsey Lodge.
Bonnie said: “Lindsey Lodge Hospice is so special to our family, as we saw first-hand the incredible care they gave my Nanna.
“I know it must have been difficult for the staff to care for my Nanna, knowing she was Covid positive, but all of the nurses treated her as they would any patient, and the care she received during her stay at the Hospice was amazing.
“My Nanna defied all the odds and with the help of the Hospice, was able to go home.
“Brad and I decided to sign up for the Yorkshire Three Peaks as we both like walking, but this will be a huge challenge for us, so it seemed like a great way to support the Hospice. I think there will be a real sense of achievement when we reach the end.”
The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge is a walking challenge based in the Yorkshire Dales taking on the peaks Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The event is approx. 26 miles long and the challenge is to complete the walk in 12 hours from start to completion.
It’s not just physical challenges that people are taking on for Lindsey Lodge, there have been head shaves, 300k runs in 30 days and even sitting in baths of cereal, proving that there are ways for everyone to get involved.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: “We’re extremely overwhelmed and grateful for the support that we’ve received from the local community.
“We’ve had many wonderful activities and challenges taken on in support of the Hospice, most of which have been undertaken in peoples back gardens! It’s been great to see the local community coming together to support Lindsey Lodge.
“We’re in unprecedented times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which is why we need people’s support now more than ever, so we’re encouraging people to get involved in our #weneedyou campaign in any way they can.”
