Our History

With the support of a dedicated group of sponsors, fundraising for Lindsey Lodge Hospice began in 1987, there then followed five full years of planning, securing the land, then the building work ready for the official opening of our Day Care Unit by the Duchess of Norfolk in 1992. We are extremely grateful to our original sponsors and all those who continue to support us as we move forward into the future.

In 2000, we began a fundraising appeal for our Inpatient Unit and on 31 July 2002, Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh visited us to formally open the unit and unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.

Since then we've expanded and developed our services to include lymphoedema and breathlessness clinics and a whole range of complimentary therapies, along with bereavement and family support services.

In July 2017 we celebrated the mammoth milestone of providing 25 years of care with a tea party in our gardens. We were joined by patients, families, staff and volunteers at this special event.

In 2022 we're celebrating 30 years of care. This coincides with our biggest expansion in 20 years - the opening of our new Butterfly Wing, which sees us significantly increasing our inpatient bed capacity from 10 to 16, in response to increasing demand for our services and ongoing bed pressure within the NHS.

Thanks to funding from the North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG),we've developed six new state-of-the-art patient rooms, complete with ensuite facilities within the existing footprint of the Hospice building, to support patients with nurse and therapy-led care from Lindsey Lodge’s Advanced Care Practitioners, after being discharged from hospital, or from a community setting.

We've also launched a new telephone advice line - The Butterfly Line -  available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure that North Lincolnshire palliative and end of life patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals are supported with appropriate, timely palliative and end of life care advice and signposting from specialist nurses working at Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare.
