What We Do
The word ‘hospice’ can make people feel anxious. So many of us regard talking about death and dying as taboo, and few people make plans for it.
A hospice focuses on many positives and the staff and volunteers work hard to ensure the environments are warm, supportive, friendly and full of life. We are a small organisation and are able to react quickly to needs of families and patients and have times of laughter and fun and can plan special events and make memories.
You may be surprised to know that 40% of Lindsey Lodge’s patients are discharged after spending some time with us. So, a hospice is not ‘a place where people go to die’. It actually affirms life and improves its quality for both patients and their carers.

Equality & Diversity
We view equality and diversity as an opportunity to respond to and be relevant to our local community.
We recognise that we need to create an environment where all patients, carers and their families feel they are treated equally as individuals and one that enables our employees and volunteers to thrive and achieve their full potential.
Our Ambition
We wish to be an organisation where difference is valued and our workforce is representative of our local community. We recognise that equality, diversity and inclusivity are vital to building a strong, engaged and innovative workforce. We aim to create an environment where we remove barriers to progression and create opportunities for those who are impacted by inequality through paid and volunteer roles. In this regard we have developed an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan for 24/25 to support a culture that is inclusive to all and enables our workforce to be representative of our local community.
Key actions within the plan include the following:
- Introducing refreshed arrangements for ED&I data collection and monitoring to enable robust monitoring ED&I targets going forward
- A review of all employment policies and procedures in order to reflect our commitment to ED&I including our recruitment and selection processes.
- Collaboration with our partner agencies at strategic and operational levels to implement key ED&I workstreams
- Provision of line manager training to ensure our leaders understand and champion our ED&I priorities
- Board Development to include ED&I
- To become a Disability Confident employer
- To recognise and celebrate events such as Pride Month and National Inclusion Week
- To implement unconscious bias training.
We will regularly update this information to reflect our progress on our action plan which will be overseen by the Hospice’s Workforce Committee.

We’re an Independent Charity
Our care is free of charge to patients and their families but not free to provide. As a charity we rely heavily on the generosity of local people and organisations to raise just over £3.7 million each year to run Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Although Lindsey Lodge does receive NHS public funding, the majority of the running costs have to be raised from donations and fundraising by the local community – businesses, groups and individuals. Legacies are also a major source of income.
