Today, the Pressure Prevention Team visited the Lindsey Lodge wellbeing centre to promote awareness about preventing and treating pressure ulcers. The team of nurses regularly visits local care homes and providers to educate at-risk individuals, carers, and staff about the signs, prevention, and treatment of pressure ulcers.

Nurse Sandra Cartwright explained the team’s mission:

“By spreading awareness and providing information, we can make a significant difference. Meeting people face-to-face allows us to emphasise the importance of self-care and recognising early signs and symptoms.”

Nutrition plays a crucial role in the team’s work.

“A healthy, balanced diet significantly impacts the body’s healing process,” Cartwright noted. “Many people don’t realise how much they can do to reduce their risk. By reaching more people, we can lessen the burden on healthcare services in the long run.”

Karen Andrew, Operational Matron at Lindsey Lodge, echoed these sentiments:

“We’re grateful to have this team of experts here to educate our patients. Their visual aids and materials help patients better understand the risks. By prioritising prevention, we can reduce the need for treatment services at the hospice.”
