Hundreds of garden lovers have enjoyed a spectacular summer visiting some of the region’s most glorious private gardens, raising over £9,718 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
Over 50 gardens situated in locations in and around Scunthorpe and the surrounding villages, the Isle of Axholme and the Lincolnshire Wolds opened to the public as part of the charity-run Hospice’s Open Gardens programme, which has raised over £101,000 since it began over 11 years ago.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: “Our Open Gardens Programme 2019 ran from May to August this year and was another fantastic success, with some old favourites and a number of new ones opening to raise funds for Lindsey Lodge this year.
“I’d like to pay tribute to all of our wonderful gardeners, who work extremely hard all year round to keep everything in tip top condition ready for the paying public to visit. They make all our visitors feel so welcome, offering gardening advice, along with refreshments and plants for sale, so a huge thank you to them for their generosity and commitment.”
The gardeners were recently invited to visit the Hospice for tea to say thank you for all of their support, where a montage of photos from this year’s activities were on display.
Karen added: “It was lovely to have an opportunity to say a big thank you to all our gardeners and volunteers for their support – and this year we were able to show them our new Memorial Garden and Polytunnel here at the Hospice.
“I’m delighted so many of them have agreed to open their gardens next summer. We’d also welcome any new gardeners on board too as we’re hoping our programme is even bigger and better than ever next year!”
