How much time do I have to give as a volunteer?
The amount of time varies for each opportunity, this will be outlined by the Line Manager. It may be for one-off event support, a short term project or long term regular commitment to services.
What skills do I need to volunteer?
The skills needed depend on the opportunity and nature of the project. Some roles don’t require a specific skill set - we are looking for enthusiasm, commitment and workplace values. Any particular skills you need will be clearly stated in the role definition.
What will I get out of volunteering?
That depends on the reasons you chose to volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to employ existing skills or further your knowledge whilst also meeting new people and improving confidence.
Will I interviewed?
All roles involve an invite for a taster session, this provides an opportunity to spend time in the work area and understand the role requirements. An informal chat and application form will follow if you and the Line Manager agree your suitability for the volunteer role.
Will I be paid expenses?
You will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses. The types of expenses you are able to claim will be confirmed once you are offered the volunteering role.
Do you offer training?
We provide the necessary training to help you perform our role effectively. You will be expected to undertake Induction and/or specific training. This depends on the role you will be fulfilling.
What support will I get?
Your Line Manager will be the main point of contact, you can approach them with any questions, concerns, or enquiries on health and safety. We encourage Line Managers to have a catch up with volunteers to check how they are getting on, address any issues and discuss opportunities.
Can I leave if I don’t like it?
Yes, of course you can! We want all our volunteers to have a worthwhile and positive experience so always welcome feedback, to help us make improvements. We actively encourage volunteers to talk to us before making a decision to leave.
