The families of two best friends from Crowle have united to raise over £3,232 for their local hospice to say thank you for their care.

Val Janssen and Mabel Clift, were much loved members of the congregation at Crowle Methodist Chapel. They sadly passed away within weeks of each other at Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe.

In memory of their lost loved ones and to say thank you for the excellent care they both received at the charity-run Hospice, their families have organised a series of fundraising events and activities, which have been greatly supported within the local community.

Speaking on behalf of the two families, Val’s granddaughter April Buttrick said: “The care my Grandma and Mabel received at Lindsey Lodge was amazing – we will be forever thankful to the staff and volunteers for everything they did for them and all our families.

“Straight away we knew we wanted to help raise money for the Hospice, so we decided to hold a coffee morning at Grandma and Mabel’s local chapel, and thanks to the generous support from our local community it was a huge success!”

Funds on the day were boosted by £150 from Mabel and Val’s friend Gwen Parkin, who had held a table top sale on Crowle Market, and along with a bun sale, taking part in the Hospice’s Glow Walk and a raffle and dress down day, the families raised over £2,212, which was then given a £1,020 boost from Sandtoft-based company Wienerberger, where Val’s son Richard and daughter-in-law Debbie work.

Wienerberger staff were invited to take part in a staff survey, and as an incentive, the company pledged to donate £10 to a local charity for every person who took part. Lindsey Lodge was suggested and the company decided to donate the total amount to the Burringham Road Hospice.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice is run as an independent charity to provide specialist palliative care to patients in North Lincolnshire. Its services include a 10 bed inpatient unit, a five-day, day care unit, physiotherapy, a Lymphoedema service, bereavement and family support services and complimentary therapy services for patients.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: “On behalf of everyone at Lindsey Lodge I’d like to say thank you to both families for their wonderful support and for the lovely feedback they’ve given our team about the care we provided to Mabel and Val.

“I’d also like to say a massive thank you to Wienerberger for their generous donation and for choosing Lindsey Lodge.”

She added: “This is a huge amount of money they have donated and every penny will go towards ensuring other patients and their families continue to receive the best possible care and support when they need it.”

The families’ fundraising activities are continuing with a 60s, 70s and 80s Disco at Crowle Community Hall on Saturday 29 September, for more information about tickets, please contact April on phone 07875121203.

There will also be service in memory of Mabel and Val at Crowle Methodist Chapel, where the Isle Community Choir will be performing on Saturday 6 October at 7pm, with all proceeds going to the Chapel.
