Statement regarding Lindsey Lodge Hospice Glow Walk 2020
A spokesman for Lindsey Lodge Hospice said: “Having consulted local public health teams and in line with latest Government guidelines regarding the Lindsey Lodge Hospice Glow Walk, which was due to take place this Friday 11 September 2020.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that the Glow Walk has been changed.
“Despite our rigorous risk assessment and plans for the event, the safety of our participants, patients and staff is always paramount to Lindsey Lodge, and in view of the fast-changing nature of public health and public safety advice due to Covid-19 in the UK, we feel it would be irresponsible of us to hold a mass participant event during this time of uncertainty.
“We very much appreciate the training and sponsorship commitments of our supporters over the past few months and would be delighted if our participants decide to still take on the 10-mile Glow Walk challenge over the weekend, whether it’s walking around your local park or setting off from home.
“Glow Walk packs will be available to pick up from the Lindsey Lodge Hospice overflow carpark between 2pm and 7pm on Thursday 10 September and 8am and 7pm on Friday 11 September. Inside the packs there will be a t-shirt, walker number, medal and balloon as well as any items which have been pre-ordered. Participants will not need to exit their car to receive their packs, as there will be a drive through system in place to avoid unnecessary risk.
“To enable you to share your walk with us on social media we have created a special group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/712692299589030 as we’d love to see you complete the challenge and give you our support. Please help us create the Glow Walk atmosphere virtually, as we share everyone’s photos and updates.
“We thank you for your ongoing support and understanding during these very difficult times. Every penny you raise allows us to continue to provide our much needed palliative care to patients and their families at the time they need it most – both now and in the future.”
