A North Lincolnshire Hospice and Healthcare provider has revealed plans to expand its inpatient accommodation.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare will expand its bed base from 10 to 16 over the coming months, in response to increasing demand for its services and the ongoing pressure on bed availability within the NHS.

The initiative is being taken in partnership with North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and will support patients with nurse-led care after being discharged from hospital, or from a community setting.

Lindsey Lodge Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: “We are extremely grateful to North Lincolnshire CCG for their offer to partially fund this expansion project. This is a significant moment in our 29 year history and comes at a time when our care is needed more than ever.”

The expansion project comprises two distinct phases. The first has involved re-purposing Lindsey Lodge’s two existing family rooms into two one-bedded patient suites. These were de-commissioned for family use during the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the Government’s strict infection-control restrictions on visiting and movement around health settings. In response to this, families are now provided with sleeping facilities in the patient rooms, to enable them to remain close to their loved ones. This model will continue to be supported into the future.

The second phase will involve development of four further patient rooms and clinical space within the existing footprint of the hospice building, re-siting the laundry and re-purposing the neighbouring bungalow, which Lindsey Lodge acquired earlier this year, into office accommodation for non-clinical staff.

Karen Griffiths added: “Over the past three decades, with the significant support of the local community, we have continued to re-shape and develop our services to best meet the needs of our patients and their families, and this further expansion of our inpatient accommodation reflects our continued commitment to ensuring the people we serve receive the best possible care at Lindsey Lodge, both now and into the future.”
