Marathon mum raises thousands for Hospice

A Scunthorpe mum of two who took part in this year’s London Marathon has raised over £2,500 for her local hospice in memory of her mum.

North Lincolnshire Council worker Jenny Dale (36) completed the gruelling 26.2 mile challenge in just four hours, 15 minutes and 36 seconds in aid of Lindsey Lodge Hospice, to say thank you for the care her mum Kathryn Clayton received there.

Jenny said: “My mum passed away in October 2018, the day before I was due to run Yorkshire Marathon for the Nottingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

“Running had helped me with some of the difficult times throughout her illness, and continues to help me now.
“My mum spent some of her final weeks, and her last days in Lindsey Lodge Hospice with her family.

“Losing was her has been heart breaking for all of us, but we took comfort from seeing her comfortable and cared for so well, with respect and dignity.”

Jenny had unsuccessfully applied for a place in the London Marathon a number of times, but this year her application was successful.

She added: “It felt like my London Marathon ballot place was fate, so I decided to raise money for Lindsey Lodge as so many local people have their lives, and the lives of loved ones touched by the Hospice.”

Thanks to the amazing support from husband Chris and children Sofia (six) and Caleb (three), Jenny underwent a 16 week training programme to prepare her for her marathon challenge, sometimes training up to five times a week.

She said: “This really was a physical and mental challenge like no other, but with help from my friends supporting I finished. I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me!”

Lindsey Loge Hospice Community Fundraiser Selina Doyle said: “On behalf of everyone at Lindsey Lodge, we’d like to say thank you to Jenny for supporting us and raising such a fantastic amount of money.

“Every penny she’s raised will go towards ensuring our patients and their families receive our specialist care and services when they need it most.”
