One of the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary railway infrastructure contractors has given Lindsey Lodge Hospice a £1,000 boost thanks to the excellent safety record achieved by its Scunthorpe-based team.
The VolkerRail Team based at British Steel’s Scunthorpe steelworks have achieved more than five years without any lost-time accidents, and VolkerRail offered to arrange a celebration event to acknowledge this very special milestone. However, the big-hearted team nominated to donate £1,000 to Lindsey Lodge Hospice instead.
VolkerRail General Manager John Pearson said: “This is a massive achievement that really does deserve acknowledging. It is extremely humbling that the team wish to help others as their celebration and it was a great pleasure to make this donation to Lindsey Lodge in recognition of their outstanding performance.”
John and representatives of the Scunthorpe team made the visit to the charity-run Hospice to handover the donation, while they were there Lindsey Lodge Fundraiser Rob Dannatt gave them a tour.
Rob said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at VolkerRail for choosing to support Lindsey Lodge Hospice in this way. Every penny they have donated will go towards ensuring our patients and families receive the best possible care and support when they need it most.”
