The Lindsey Lodge team goes to great lengths to support patients and their loved ones while they are spending time at the Hospice.

One recent example was when patient Steve Brocklesby expressed a wish to make one final trip to Robin Hood’s Bay with his family and friends.

The Inpatient Team worked with Steve’s wider healthcare team to ensure he could safely make the trip to the Yorkshire coast.

Sadly, during the journey and before they reached Robin Hood’s Bay, Steve’s condition deteriorated and he needed support to return to Lindsey Lodge and after taking advice from the Hospice team and local clinicians an ambulance attended from Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS).

When Steve and his family shared the details of why they were making this special trip, the YAS crew very generously made a short detour on their route back to Lindsey Lodge, which meant Steve was able spend a short time in his favourite place and even enjoy a pint with his family while he was there.

Steve passed away just two days later, and his family and friends are extremely grateful to all of the ambulance crew and all of Steve’s care team for making these very special memories to cherish.
