Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare Relaunches Key Support Service as the Palliative Care Support Line
Lindsey Lodge Hospice has officially announced the relaunch of its vital telephone support service. Formerly known as the Butterfly Line, the service has been renamed the Palliative Care Support Line, reflecting a renewed focus on providing clear, accessible, and compassionate guidance to the local community.
While the name has changed, the hospice’s core commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred support remains entirely the same. A key priority of the service is empowering patient choice, ensuring that individuals who wish to spend their final days at home can still easily access the specialist support, comfort, and clinical expertise of the Lindsey Lodge team. By providing this immediate, professional guidance, the line also plays a critical role in preventing unnecessary hospital admissions, helping patients avoid stressful emergency trips and taking the strain off our vital NHS services.

What the Service Offers
The Palliative Care Support Line acts as a crucial helpline during difficult times, providing:
- Expert Symptom Advice: Friendly, professional guidance on managing symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, and anxiety from our team of trained specialist professionals.
- Emotional Support: A listening ear and reassurance for both patients and those looking after them.
- Support for At-Home Care: Enabling individuals to remain comfortably in their preferred place of care with direct access to specialist advice.
- Preventing Hospital Admissions: Helping patients manage their care safely at home, reducing the need for emergency call-outs and hospital stays.
- Clear Guidance: Honest, compassionate information on what to expect as an illness progresses.
- Signposting: Direct help to access other healthcare services or urgent support when required.
Revised Operating Hours
To ensure the most responsive and efficient care possible, the service has introduced revised operating hours. The dedicated telephone line is now open 7 days a week, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
While the service is no longer available 24/7, these updated hours have been carefully chosen to ensure a highly accessible and responsive service during the peak times people most commonly need support.
Who Can Access the Line?
The service is entirely free and available to:
- Anyone currently receiving palliative or end-of-life care.
- Family members, friends, and carers.
- Anyone supporting a loved one through this stage of life.
“Our aim is to ensure that no one has to navigate these challenges alone, regardless of where they choose to receive their care,”
Helen Turner, Director of Patient Care and Governance for Lindsey Lodge Hospice stated.
“We know how deeply important it is for many people to remain at home, but when symptoms change, families often panic and turn to emergency services.
By providing immediate access to specialist hospice expertise right at the end of a phone, we can manage these changes safely at home. This not only honours the patient’s choices but also actively prevents unnecessary hospital admissions, alleviating critical pressure on our local NHS services.”
